Talented 16-23 year old Performing Arts students can get help with the cost of their further education by applying for the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) funded Dance and Drama Award (DaDA).

What is the Dance and Drama Award (DaDa)?

The Dance and Drama Award (DaDAs) offers talented performing arts students assistance with course fees and living costs. The DaDa is available to students studying at some of the country’s leading performing arts colleges.

Notable past recipients of the DaDa have included Pixie Lott, Claire For and Danny Mac.

How Much Help Can I Get?

Dependent on where you live and your household income, the DaDa will cover up to the full cost of the course fee. The maintenance aspect helps with living costs -up to £5,185 for lodgings in London, £4,550 for lodgings outside the capital (correct as of the 2019/2020 academic year).

Who Can Apply?

Students applying to study one the applicable Trinity College London Diplomas at one of the DaDa schools listed below.

The gov.uk website also states: ‘You must be aged 16 to 23 and show talent and a likelihood to succeed in the industry.’

How Do I Apply?

If you intend to apply for a DaDa, do so directly with the dance and drama school of your choice (from the list of schools below). Following an audition, students who are judged at audition as being the ‘most talented and likely to succeed in the industry’ will be invited to apply for the means-tested Dance and Drama award.

If you are invited to apply for a DaDA, you will be provided with the relevant paperwork – applications are administered directly by providers.

Which Courses and Schools Qualify?

You must be studying for one of these Trinity College London Diplomas:

  • Level 6 Diploma in Professional Acting (3 years)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Professional Acting (1 year)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Professional Dance (Classical Ballet or Contemporary Dance) (2 years)
  • Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance (3 years)
  • Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre (3 years)
